Tips For Maintaining Your Child’s Dental Health During Halloween

PumpkinsHalloween is approaching quickly and with it comes parties, pumpkin carving, costumes, and children roaming the neighborhood for lots and lots of candy! Because this is a holiday centered almost completely on candy, it can be difficult to stay away from sugar in October. Luckily, there are ways that you can celebrate the festivities and help your kids maintain their oral hygiene at the same time.

Healthy Habits For Halloween

Below are a few things you can do to keep your family’s teeth healthy during the most sugary time of the year:

  • Good Oral Hygiene – Obviously Halloween time is an important time to stay on top of your oral hygiene. Good oral hygiene means brushing at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, and visiting Meadows Family Dental for a post-Halloween dental cleaning and exam.
  • Plenty Of Water – Not only does water help keep you hydrated, but it’s also good at washing away any harmful acid or bacteria lurking on your teeth after a candy binge.
  • Balanced Diet – Obviously, when your family is consuming more sugar than usual, it’s important to keep the rest of their meals as healthy as possible. Incorporate a lot more vegetables and protein and limit dessert, fruit drinks, and soda.
  • Eat Dinner Before Trick-Or-Treating – Lastly, eating a big healthy meal before hitting the streets for trick-or-treating will make it less likely that your kids will binge on their Halloween candy all in one night. This family dinner is also a great opportunity for you to go over Halloween safety rules with your children.

By putting the above tips into effect this year, we know that you can get through the holiday without a dental cavity in sight!

To schedule a dental cleaning and exam, please don’t hesitate to contact Meadows Family Dental, our Castle Rock, CO dental office. And, from all of us at the office, we want to wish you a Happy Halloween!
