How Some Schools Are Becoming Involved in Dental Education of Children

Back to schoolIn some low-income areas, school districts are applying more focus on the dental and oral healthcare of the students in their schools. School settings are an ideal opportunity for putting a preventative intervention system in place for children’s oral healthcare and education. Many school systems place a strong emphasis on education and prevention, teaching kids how to achieve and then maintain strong, healthy smiles.

School Systems & Oral Health Care

It’s been shown that both adults and children in low-income areas experience disparities in dental disease and the access to proper oral healthcare. In this new school-centered approach, the goal is to prevent the occurrence of dental disease, which will then eliminate any need for oral treatment or procedures. School children will be educated about disease prevention, early identification of common oral health problems, and how to seek proper treatment if necessary.

Here at Meadows Family Dentistry, we think that oral health education is one of the best ways to prevent dental disease and we’re thrilled that school systems are tackling this problem head-on. In addition to helping further the education children and their parents, these programs are eliminating the need to take time off of school and work for dental treatment, not to mention the added financial expense of costly procedures.

To make an appointment for your whole family to receive a dental cleaning and a checkup, please contact Meadows Family Dentistry, located here in Castle Rock, Colorado. We want to make sure that all of our patients are able to achieve and maintain the healthy, beautiful smiles they deserve!
