Healthier Alternatives To Halloween Candy

Trick-or-treatersIt’s that time of year again, when little ghosts and goblins will traipse around the neighborhood in search of candy! Here at Meadows Family Dental, we love celebrating Halloween – From the decorations and costumes to the fun trick-or-treating traditions.

The only downside to Halloween is the staggering amount of sugar being ingested by our children! Sugar can wreak havoc on our bodies, especially the tiny, vulnerable bodies of children. Also worth noting, your dental health can be negatively affected by excessive amounts of sugar, causing dental cavities, tooth decay, and more.

Non-Food Alternatives To Halloween Candy

Our best suggestion for the years to come is to avoid passing out candy altogether! This doesn’t mean that your house needs to be the boring one in the neighborhood; there are many fun non-food items that can be put in trick-or-treat bags. Below are a few healthy alternatives to Halloween candy:

  • Bouncy balls
  • Halloween pencils and/or erasers
  • Mini Slinkies
  • Tubes of bubbles
  • Spooky stickers or temporary tattoos
  • Spider or skull rings
  • Glow sticks
  • Mini tubs of Play-Doh
  • Vampire teeth
  • Noise makers or whistles
  • Chinese finger traps
  • Small coloring or activity books

Not only will kids love these unique treats, but the parents in your neighborhood will thank you for avoiding the sugar!

Dr. Polson and the rest of the staff here at Meadows Family Dental want to wish you a safe, healthy, and Happy Halloween! To make a post-holiday dental appointment, please contact our Castle Rock, CO dental office today!
